New: TSP Decision Tools — Step Guide + 3 Calculators for BRS Members

Published June 4, 2026

What's New

MilCheck now includes a TSP decision hub alongside the existing pay and VA loan tools. The suite is built for BRS service members and covers the three decisions that cost the most money when they go wrong: leaving DoD match on the table, front-loading contributions and losing match mid-year, and leaving money parked in the G Fund when equity alternatives have historically compounded faster.

The Tools

TSP Decision Guide (hub) — A 7-step walkthrough of every TSP decision from enrollment to fund selection, with official sources on every step and links into each calculator.

Match Gap Calculator — Enter your rank and current election percentage to see the exact annual dollar amount you are forfeiting in BRS match — and the one percentage to enter in myPay to close the gap. Under BRS, DoD contributes 1% automatically and matches up to an additional 4% of basic pay. Contributing below 5% means you are leaving money on the table with no make-up provision.

Contribution Timing Optimizer — Enter your rank, election %, and year-to-date contributions to see whether you will exhaust the IRS elective deferral limit before December. For 2026, the limit is $24,500 (under 50), $32,500 for ages 50–59 and 64+, and $35,750 for ages 60–63 under the SECURE 2.0 enhanced catch-up. Hitting the ceiling before December stops your contributions — and your DoD match — for the remaining pay periods.

G Fund Opportunity Cost — Enter your enrollment year and contribution percentage to see what your balance would be today if you had invested in a C Fund, S Fund, or 60/40 blend instead of the G Fund. Returns are calculated from actual TSP.gov price history, not projections.

2026 Contribution Limits

Limit
Under 50$24,500
Ages 50–59 and 64+$32,500
Ages 60–63 (SECURE 2.0)$35,750

Limits set by IRS Notice 2025-67, effective January 1, 2026.
